Importance of Saddle Fit

Equine Discomfort

The following list could be a sign that your horse is suffering from some degree of back pain.

  • Ear pinning
  • Tail swishing
  • objection to girthing or mounting
  • teeth grinding
  • Inability to round back or work in a frame
  • Excessive tripping or stumbling
  • Reluctance to move forward and step out
  • Difficulty traveling straight
  • Resisting collection work and transition
  • Rushing toward fences
  • Bucking after jumps

A poorly fitted saddle can be directly related tot he majority of equine back issues.

Rider Discomfort

With proper saddle fit and design, the majority of rider discomfort can be alleviated. Some of the common issues are:

  • seat size is too small
  • pommel sitting too high in front
  • balance of saddle too forward (cantle hitting at back)
  • The rise of the pommel extends too far back
